Cell Phone Repair Course Launches in Orange Walk Town

The Office of the Prime Minister, in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, the National Women’s Commission, and the Orange Walk Town Council, has launched the “Cell Phone Repair Course for Women and Youth” in the Orange Walk district.

The program hopes to create self-employment opportunities for women and youth in Orange Walk Town and its surrounding villages. Currently, 14 participants are enrolled in the program, which addresses a significant gap in skilled technicians for cell phone maintenance and repair in Belize. As there is no existing training course of this type in the country, many rural areas lack accessible cell phone repair services.

The course builds on the success of a similar program in Corozal, where half of the trainees have gone on to offer repair services in their community. The expansion to Orange Walk is anticipated to yield positive outcomes.

Key figures at the launch included Mrs. Narda Garcia, CEO in the Office of the Prime Minister; Mrs. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Chair of the National Women’s Commission; Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit; and Mr. Allen Yu, Councilor for the Orange Walk Town Council.
