Lawrence Ellis Announced as PUP Standard Bearer for Mesopotamia
Lawrence Ellis has been officially endorsed as the People’s United Party (PUP) candidate for the Mesopotamia division. The announcement was made on Thursday, with Prime Minister John Briceno leading the charge in supporting Ellis.
Prime Minister Briceno emphasized the need for a change in leadership, criticizing the long-standing United Democratic Party (UDP) representation in Mesopotamia. “It’s time for new blood… a new leading figure for this constituency,” Briceno declared, highlighting the area’s 42-year history under UDP control and pointing out the perceived stagnation during that period.
Lawrence Ellis, a businessman with roots in the Mesopotamia area, has expressed his determination to challenge the current UDP Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow.
Ellis, who has already started engaging with the community, is confident that the voters will support his campaign. He intends to offer a fresh perspective and revitalization for the area, which he believes has been neglected for too long. His campaign slogan, “You come first,” underscores his commitment to prioritizing the needs of the residents.
With Prime Minister Briceno’s endorsement and the party’s backing, Ellis is poised to challenge Barrow’s long-standing influence in the division. The upcoming election will be important for Mesopotamia as residents weigh the potential for change against decades of UDP leadership.
