Belize’s upcoming general elections on March 12, 2025, will be observed by the Organization of American States (OAS). Prime Minister John Briceño met with representatives of the OAS today to discuss their role in ensuring a fair and transparent election process.
The OAS is an international organization that promotes democracy, human rights, security, and development across the Americas. When invited to observe elections, the OAS sends a team of experts to monitor the process, ensuring that it is free, fair, and transparent. These observers assess different aspects of the election, such as voter registration, campaign activities, voting procedures, ballot counting, and the announcement of results.
OAS election observers also identify any irregularities, report on challenges, and provide recommendations to strengthen future elections. Their presence helps build public trust in the electoral process by ensuring that voting is conducted fairly and without interference.
