UDP Slams PUP Ministers for Senate Walkout

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has condemned the actions of three prominent members of the ruling People’s United Party (PUP), accusing them of disrespecting the Senate Special Select Committee. The UDP specifically called out Minister of State Senator Christopher Coye, Cabinet Secretary Stuart Leslie, and Senator Eamon Courtenay for leaving the committee hearing on Wednesday without proper dismissal.

According to the UDP, Senator Courtenay advised the two witnesses—Coye and Leslie—to abruptly exit the hearing, refusing to answer questions. The opposition party claims this behavior exemplifies the PUP administration’s disregard for democratic principles of accountability and transparency. The UDP further contrasted this conduct with the lengthy testimonies given by UDP ministers during the immigration inquiry, emphasizing the absence of similar actions in past hearings.

The UDP urged Social Partner Senators to take strong action to ensure that Senator Coye and Cabinet Secretary Leslie return to the Senate and respond to all questions posed by the committee.
